Simple Tips for Restoring Your Stainless Steel Kitchen Sink

Simple Tips for Restoring Your Stainless Steel Kitchen Sink

Buying a stainless steel kitchen sink is one of the best investments that you will ever make for your home. Kitchen sinks made of stainless steel are usually top tier products because of how durable, strong and aesthetically appealing they are. Not to mention, stainless steel products are easy to maintain and clean, something that would pique the interest of homemakers on a budget.

The Importance of Fixing Your Kitchen Sink

All that being said, it is important to remember that a stainless steel kitchen is not invincible. If used frequently for a period of several years, there will come a time when your stainless steel kitchen sink will not function as smoothly as it once did. In this situation, it is very important for the homeowner to know exactly what needs to be done to restore the stainless steel kitchen sink. If you want, you could splash some extra cash and get yourself a brand new kitchen sink. However, there isn’t any need for you to do that because stainless steel kitchen sinks can be easily restored if you simply follow some easy steps. A successful restoration can save you a huge amount of money and allow you to use a high quality stainless steel kitchen product for many more years to come.

Using Non-Commercial Products

Expensive cleaning products are not always required to bring back the shine and luster of your stainless steel kitchen sink. Sometimes, you have things at your home that can do just as good a cleaning job as any commercial cleaner out there. One of the best products that you can rely on is vinegar. This item is particularly helpful when you are trying to scrape off mineral deposits on your stainless steel kitchen sink. Another product that may come in handy is hydrogen peroxide. This is useful for kitchen sinks that have lost their shining appearance. A decent amount of hydrogen peroxide can recover the shine and sparkle of the kitchen sink surface within a matter of hours. If there are water spots that need removal, you could easily make use of alcohol. You can pour a bit of alcohol onto the cloth and use it to wipe the sink clean.

Re-graining for Effective Restoration

One of the most effective cleaning techniques that you can apply on a kitchen sink is re-graining. For those of you who are not familiar with the term, re-graining is a process by which a scrubber pad is rubbed against the surface of the stainless steel kitchen sink to restore the original smoothness of the product. Any mineral deposit that may not have been picked up by vinegar will be instantly removed after a rub with the scrubber pad. That being said, you should not put too much effort into rubbing the kitchen sink. Anything above moderate pressure could result in further damage to your precious stainless steel kitchen sink. Once the scrubbing is complete, you could use your favorite polishing product to bring back the spectacular gleam on your kitchen sink.

Thanks for pointing out that commercial cleaning products aren’t always the way to go to restore the luster of a stainless steel sink. I didn’t realize that you could use vinegar to clean metal though, so I will have to give that a try at some point! I imagine that if your best efforts aren’t fixing the problem you could also simply replace the sink if you could find a good steel supplier.
