We recently wrote about the importance of proper brush care and demonstrated the right way to clean and maintain your weld cleaning equipment.
The new episode of our Ask Cougartron series expands on this important topic in detail and brings you more tips on how to extend the life of your brushes.
YOUR QUESTION: How can I make my weld cleaning brushes last longer?
Tom, our weld cleaning expert, prepared the video above and provided an invaluable insight into this subject.
How to make the weld cleaning brush last longer?
- Clean your brushes immediately after use. To prevent the appearance of corrosion and buildup of harmful deposits, it is important that you rinse off your brushes with running water after each use. In some cases, it is desirable to first apply a neutralizing fluid to the brush to remove excess acid from its bristles.
- Always use a correct brush shroud, and position it properly. This brings a number of significant benefits. The shroud will keep the brush fibers banded together so they can retain weld cleaning fluids better and prevent issues with arcing. The shroud will also protect the brush crimp from any serious damage, which, in turn, makes the whole brush more durable.
- Replace parts instantly if damaged. All Cougartron weld cleaners are delivered with the required brush components for proper use. However, if any of these components are damaged, it is important that you replace them immediately. Working with defective parts always negatively affects the longevity of your brushes.
