Dot peen marking

Dot peen marking for parts that need to keep their identity

When a part will be painted or surface treated, identification marked only on the surface may no longer be readable. DotTrax P100 makes an indented mark directly in the metal.

Explore the cordless DotTrax P100 here. Compatible batteries, styli and replacement parts will join this category as the range expands.

Where it fits

Permanent part identification, wherever the work is

Use an indented dot peen mark where identification needs depth before a finish is applied. Confirm readability with the actual coating.

Large fabrications

Carry the cordless marker to frames, plates and assemblies that are awkward to move to a fixed marking station.

Traceability

Mark part IDs, serial numbers, dates, logos, QR codes and DataMatrix codes within the machine’s marking area. Test machine-readable codes with your scanner.

Dot peen marking questions

Why use dot peen marking before painting?

The electric stylus makes a physical indentation in the metal. The finished mark still needs testing: visibility depends on the material, depth, preparation and coating thickness.

Does DotTrax P100 need an air supply or separate computer?

No. It uses an electric stylus, battery power and integrated touchscreen for standalone marking.

How deep can it mark?

The specified maximum is up to 0.016 in (0.4 mm). Actual depth depends on the material and marking setup. Use a test piece before a production batch.

Which batteries and spares fit?

The marker uses a compatible Makita-style 18V battery platform. Confirm the approved battery, charger, stylus and spare part specification for your machine before ordering.

Can it mark QR and DataMatrix codes?

Yes. Check the code layout and scanning performance on the actual surface and after any finishing process.
