Metal marking

Metal marking for identification, traceability and branding

Cougartron marking systems let you mark logos, serial numbers, QR codes, part IDs, batch data and product designations directly onto metal parts.

Choose between electrochemical marking, stencil-based etching and laser marking depending on the material, mark type and workflow.

Build the setup

A complete marking setup has four parts

1. Marking method

Choose electrochemical marking, stencil-based etching or laser marking based on the part, material and mark type.

2. Machine or set

Select the marking machine, laser marker or etching set that fits your workflow and production volume.

3. Stencil or data

Use stencils for electrochemical marking, or digital data such as serial numbers and QR codes for laser marking.

4. Fluid and consumables

Match the marking fluid, felt, handle, cable and accessories to the material and process.

Metal marking questions

What can Cougartron marking systems mark?

Cougartron marking systems can be used for logos, serial numbers, QR codes, maker’s marks, batch data, product names and part IDs on conductive metal surfaces.

Which materials can be marked?

Electrochemical marking can be used on conductive metal surfaces including stainless steel, aluminium, mild steel, copper and titanium. Laser marking can also be used on a wide range of metals and treated surfaces depending on the setup.

Should I choose electrochemical marking or laser marking?

Choose electrochemical marking when you want stencil-based marking or etching with marking fluids and consumables. Choose laser marking when you need direct, permanent part identification such as serial numbers, QR codes, batch data and traceability marks.

Do I need a stencil printer?

You need a stencil printer when using electrochemical marking for repeat marks, logos, QR codes, text or production data. Laser marking does not use physical stencils.

Which marking fluid should I choose?

Choose marking fluid by material and process. Stainless steel, aluminium and titanium can require different marking fluids, so check the product page or ask us before ordering.

Can I add marking to an existing Cougartron weld cleaner?

In some cases, yes. Marking and etching sets are available for compatible Cougartron weld cleaning setups. Check compatibility before ordering.

Can I send a sample requirement before choosing?

Yes. Send us the material, mark size, mark type and a photo of the part. We can help recommend the right machine, stencil, fluid or laser marking setup.

Need the right marking setup?

Send us the mark and the material

Tell us what you need to mark, the material, mark size and whether the mark must be permanent, scannable or branded. We’ll help point you to the right setup.
