Description

Paint the part. Keep the identity.
A part number that disappears under the finish is a problem waiting to happen.
You still need to identify that component after it has been painted, assembled or installed. DotTrax P100 puts the information into the metal with an indented dot peen mark, giving you a deep-marking option for the work that follows.
It is the Cougartron choice when your application calls for physical marking depth before painting or surface treatment.
Mark depth and the finishing process must work together. Test the mark on your actual material and coating to confirm the finished result.
The finish changes. The part still needs an identity.

The part is heavy enough. Leave the cables behind.
Moving a frame or fabrication to a marking station can be more work than making the mark.
Take DotTrax P100 to the part. Its electric stylus, battery power and integrated controls keep marking in one handheld unit, without an air line, mains cable or separate computer during operation.
It uses compatible Makita 18V batteries available off the shelf. That gives you a familiar battery platform and a practical way to organize spare power for work around the shop.
Mark where the work is.

Set up the mark where you make it.
There is enough equipment around the job already. You do not need a separate computer alongside the part for normal marking operation.
The built-in 7-inch touchscreen puts the DotTrax controls on the machine. Work with the marking layout at the tool, then start marking with single-button operation.
A 3.94 Γ 1.18 in (100 Γ 30 mm) marking area gives you room for part identification, text and compact marking layouts. Linear and circular text options help you arrange the information around the job.

Give the mark the bite the job needs.
A shallow identifier and a mark that needs to remain readable after finishing are different jobs.
DotTrax P100 gives you nine marking-force settings to adjust the impact for the application. The specified maximum marking depth is up to 0.016 in (0.4 mm); the depth achieved depends on the material and marking setup.
Use a test piece to select the force and layout, then put it through the same preparation and coating process as the finished component. Check the result before committing a production batch.
Choose the setting for the finished part, not just the bare metal.

Part numbers are only the start.
The information on a component may need to tell you what it is, when it was made and which production batch it came from.
DotTrax P100 supports serial numbers, part IDs, logos, QR codes, DataMatrix codes, dates and shift codes. User-input fields and CSV-driven marking support jobs where the data changes from part to part.
Put the information directly on the component, within the available marking area. For machine-readable codes, check the layout and scanning performance under the actual surface and finishing conditions.

Pack it. Carry it. Get to work.
Portable equipment needs a proper home between jobs.
DotTrax P100 comes in a Cougartron carry case, ready to move between workstations, departments and customer sites. The machine weighs 10.4 lb (4.7 kg) and has a glass-filled nylon body for industrial use.
The datasheet lists up to four hours of normal use with the standard 3 Ah battery specification. Actual runtime depends on the marking work and battery condition; plan spare power around your workload.
For parts that need an identity beyond the workshop.
- Fabricated frames and components that will be painted after marking
- Machine parts requiring permanent part numbers or serial identification
- Metal plates, pipes and assemblies with suitable marking access
- Tools and equipment requiring asset identification
- Production jobs using batch, date or shift information
- Metal components requiring logos or traceability codes
Match the marking location, depth and support to the component. Thin sections, sensitive parts and specified marking procedures need application-specific checks.

Marking depth and post-finish readability depend on the application. Confirm the result on the actual material and finishing process.
What do you need to know?
Can the mark still be seen after painting?
That is a key application for DotTrax P100. The stylus creates an indented mark for jobs where depth is needed before finishing. Readability depends on the material, depth, character layout, paint system and film thickness. Test a sample through your complete finishing process.
Will it survive every surface treatment?
No blanket guarantee applies. A thick coating can fill a mark, and preparation that removes metal can reduce its depth. Tell us which treatment follows marking so we can help assess the application.
Do I need compressed air or a separate computer?
No. DotTrax P100 uses an electric marking stylus and an integrated touchscreen. It operates as a cordless standalone unit.
Which batteries does it use?
It uses a compatible Makita-style 18V battery platform. Check the approved battery and charger specification before purchase; not every Makita battery range is interchangeable.
What do the nine settings control?
They adjust marking force. They are not nine guaranteed depth measurements: the material and setup also determine the mark you achieve.
Can it mark our logo?
Yes. Logo marking is supported within the 3.94 Γ 1.18 in (100 Γ 30 mm) marking area. Share your artwork so its detail and layout can be checked for dot peen marking.
Can it mark QR and DataMatrix codes?
Yes. Both are listed capabilities. Verify the completed code with the scanner and finishing process you will use; a visible mark is not automatically a readable code.
Should I choose DotTrax or a laser marker?
Start with the finished part and the identification requirement. DotTrax is the dot peen option when a physical indentation and marking depth are central to the job. Cougartron also offers laser marking. We can help compare them on your material and required result.
Will your part number survive the finish?
Tell us the material, the information you need to mark and what happens to the part afterward. Include the coating type and thickness if you know them.
Weβll help you assess whether DotTrax P100 fits the job and what a useful marking test should cover.
