Electrochemical marking

Marking fluids for metal marking and etching

Choose the right Cougartron marking fluid for electrochemical marking and etching on stainless steel, aluminium, titanium, nickel, brass, bronze and mild steel.

Marking fluid choice depends on the material, the mark type and whether you need marking, etching or a darker, more visible result.

How to choose

Choose marking fluid by material

Stainless steel and aluminium

Use stainless and aluminium marking fluids when marking or etching common production parts, plates, tools and nameplates.

Titanium, nickel and specialist metals

Choose the material-specific fluid when marking titanium, nickel or other harder-to-mark surfaces where the wrong fluid may give poor results.

Brass, bronze and mild steel

Use the correct fluid for brass, bronze or mild steel to get a clear mark without guessing or swapping fluids between different materials.

Marking fluid questions

Which marking fluid should I choose?

Choose marking fluid by material. Use CGT-S1 for stainless steel, CGT-AL for aluminium, CGT-TI for titanium, CGT-NC for nickel, CGT-BR for brass and bronze, and CGT-MS for mild steel.

Can I use one marking fluid on all metals?

No. Marking fluids are material-specific. Using the wrong fluid can give poor contrast, weak marks or inconsistent results.

What is CGT-SA used for?

CGT-SA is used for stainless steel marking and aluminium etching work.

Can I mark aluminium with normal stainless marking fluid?

Use a fluid made for aluminium marking or etching. Aluminium behaves differently from stainless steel, so the correct fluid matters.

Do I need different fluids for marking and etching?

It depends on the material and the result you want. Some fluids are used for marking, some for etching, and some cover specific material/process combinations.

Are marking fluids used with stencils?

Yes. Electrochemical marking normally uses a stencil, marking head or block, felt or fabric, and the correct marking fluid for the metal surface.

What should I send if I need help choosing?

Send the material, mark type, marking machine or set, stencil type and a photo of the part if possible.

Need the right marking fluid?

Match the fluid to the metal before ordering

Marking fluid choice depends on the material and the marking process. If you are unsure, send us the metal type, mark requirement and the machine or marking set you use.
