Description
Pickling paste without hydrofluoric acid.
Pickle’N’Clean is a safer way to pickle and passivate stainless steel after welding.
It removes heat tint, oxide and free-iron contamination from stainless steel without using hydrofluoric acid.
Brush it onto the prepared weld area, let it work, then rinse it off properly. The result is a cleaner stainless surface with far less chemical risk than traditional HF-based pickling paste.
It is still a professional chemical process. Use the right PPE, follow the SDS and rinse the work thoroughly.
Less chemical risk. Proper stainless treatment. Cleaner welds leaving the shop.
For stainless jobs where paste still makes sense.
HF-free formulation
Traditional pickling paste often relies on hydrofluoric acid. Pickle’N’Clean removes HF from the process while still treating stainless welds properly.
Pickling and passivation
Use it as a 2-in-1 pickling and passivation process on stainless steel welds where heat tint and surface contamination need to be removed.
Removes heat tint and free iron
Built to remove post-weld discolouration, oxide and free-iron contamination from stainless surfaces.
Water-based and biodegradable
The product is water-based and fully biodegradable, making it easier to work with than aggressive HF-based alternatives.
No VOCs, HAPs or TAPs
Pickle’N’Clean is designed without VOCs, HAPs or TAPs, helping reduce the chemical burden around stainless finishing work.
Works on awkward shapes
Paste is useful when the weld shape, part size or surface layout makes machine cleaning less practical.
Simple process. Give it time to work.
Pickle’N’Clean is not an instant wipe-on, wipe-off product. It needs contact time on the weld so the chemistry can do its job.
1. Degrease the weld area
Prepare the area with CGT-N5 neutralizing fluid or Wipe’N’Weld wipes before applying the paste.
2. Apply Pickle’N’Clean
Apply it thoroughly to the prepared surface using a brush. For suitable spray workflows, apply it with the correct spraying method.
3. Wait 60-90 minutes
Let the product work properly before rinsing.
4. Rinse thoroughly
Rinse the surface with a high-pressure water gun to remove residue from the treated area.
The product does the work while it sits. The rinse finishes the job.
Use it when the job suits chemical pickling.
Good fit
Welded stainless assemblies, larger areas, complex shapes, awkward seams and jobs where a chemical treatment process is easier than working every weld by machine.
Not the fastest route
If you need immediate, local weld cleaning at the bench, a Cougartron electrochemical weld cleaner may be faster.
Good for process change
A practical step for workshops trying to move away from traditional HF-based pickling paste without giving up chemical pickling completely.
Keep the result. Cut the HF risk.
Traditional pickling paste can work, but the trade-off is ugly: serious chemical risk, difficult handling and a process most workshops would rather reduce.
Pickle’N’Clean gives you a different route. It is free of hydrofluoric acid, non-toxic, non-poisonous and fully biodegradable, while still removing heat tint and free iron contamination from stainless steel.
That does not mean you treat it casually. It still belongs in a controlled professional workflow with proper PPE, proper rinsing and sensible handling.
Less drama around the chemistry. More focus on the finish.

| Part no. | Item | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| PICK3039 | Pickle’N’Clean Paste – 1 qt | Useful for smaller jobs, testing and lower-volume workshop use |
| PICK3042 | Pickle’N’Clean Paste – 1 Gal | Practical size for regular use |
| PICK3033 | Pickle’N’Clean Paste – 5 Gal | For higher-volume users and larger stainless work |
| PICK3001 | Pickle’N’Clean Paste – 55 Gal | Available through your local representative or by contacting Cougartron directly |
The paste is only part of the workflow.
For best results, prepare the stainless surface properly before applying Pickle’N’Clean and remove all residue after the contact time.
CGT-N5 neutralizing fluid or Wipe’N’Weld wipes can be used during the preparation stage. After treatment, rinse the surface thoroughly with high-pressure water.
If the job is small, local and time-sensitive, compare this paste process with a Cougartron electrochemical weld cleaner before choosing the setup.
Not sure if paste is the right route?
Send us a photo of the weld, the stainless grade, the size of the part and how much surface you need to treat.
We will tell you whether Pickle’N’Clean makes sense, or whether a Cougartron weld cleaner is the better fit.
